In the early 1950s, the Midwest Research Found (now MRIGlobal) in Kansas City, Missouri, worked on behalf of M&Yard'due south to perfect a process whereby 3,300 pounds (1,500 kg) of chocolate centers could be coated every hour.

Peanut 1000&M's were introduced in 1954 but kickoff appeared just in the color tan. In 1960, Yard&M'southward added the yellow, cherry, and green colors.

Also in 2016, the G&M's flavour vote was created in which the fans could vote for either Honey Nut, Coffee Nut, or Chili Nut M&1000'due south. Coffee Nut was announced as the winner by Tony Hale.

In April 2017, M&M's chocolate blocks went on sale in Commonwealth of australia. 6 varieties (milk chocolate, strawberry, crispy, hazelnut, crispy mint and almond) are available.

Also in 2017, Caramel G&M's were released in the United States.

In 2019, the M&M's flavor vote cast three new flavors: English language Toffee, Mexican Jalapeño, and Thai Kokosnoot, with English Toffee winning.
